Triphala is a combination of three fruits: Haritaki (Harada), Bibhitaki (Bihara) and Amalaki (Amla). Constipation is a condition whereby the stools become difficult to pass (Hardened stools). In constipation vata’s (one among the three humors in Ayurveda) cold and dry qualities disturb the colon, inhibiting its proper functioning thereby the stools get hardened and difficult to pass. Triphala is beneficial for digestion and elimination. It acts as a laxative and digestive tonic. Triphala churna is absorbed by the intestine and quickly helps in digestion. Amalaki is the only cooling potency, useful for pitta dosha. Haritaki and bibhitaki are more warming or heating and useful for vata and kapha dosha respectively. Daily intake of triphala churna (haritaki, bibhitaki and amla in equal proportions) helps in maintaining very healthy colon as it contains natural bowel cleansing properties.
